The latest news from Nether Green and from the wider world of renting.

13/5/24 - Reading Borough Council Household Support Fund

Reading Borough Council have issued information regarding their Household Support Fund, for families on low incomes.  For more information Click Here.

4/6/24 – The Renters’ Reform Bill.

Many of you may have been following news in recent Months regarding the Renters’ Reform Bill and its passage through Parliament.  The proposals would have (amongst other measures) abolished Section 21 Notices, along with fixed-term tenancies.

With the announcement of a General Election on July 4th, the Bill did not pass into law.  However, it is almost certain that, whatever the outcome of the election, the Bill will be revived in some form.  As some of you may know, we had already started making some preparations in regards to the Bill; which we will continue to do to make any transition as seamless as possible for all parties when changes are made.

You can find out more about what was proposed in the Bill here.

19/9/24 - New Gas/Heating Engineers.

Please be advised that we are now using a local company "Berkshire Heat" for all of our gas and heating work, including Annual Gas Safety Inspections.

They will contact tenants directly when the gas safety check for a property is due.

4/2/25 - The Renter's Rights Bill.

The New Government’s “Renters’ Rights Bill” is currently making its way through Parliament and is expected to become law in the Spring/Summer of this year.

This Bill will see the biggest reform to the Private Rented Sector in a generation.

Probably the two biggest changes from a Tenant’s perspective are:

  • The abolition of ‘fixed-term’ tenancies.  All Tenancy agreements (even those already in place) will become Month-to-Month periodic tenancies.
  • The abolition of ‘Section 21’, the so-called ‘no-fault eviction’.

You can read more about the Bill and what it contains here.

As a Company, we are of the view that the Bill risks negatively impacting the very tenants it claims to be protecting.  The supply of properties will diminish, which will drive up rents for everyone.

However, we will, of course, fully comply with the new laws once they are in place and will keep our tenants updated.
